Outdoor Burning Information

Forsyth County allows open burning for residences in cities or townships that does not provide yard waste pick-up. It is illegal for residences inside the town of Kernersville and the the city of Winston-Salem to open burn unless it is for warmth or food.

Open burning consists of yard waste material; tree branches, yard trimmings, logs, and stumps that originate from your property. It is illegal to burn trash, plastics, tires, paint, aerosol, etc. You can be fined by the EPA for causing nuisance and/or burning said material.

Piney Grove Fire-Rescue Department can not force the extinguishment of a person(s) fire as it is their right to burn on their property. We can not issue citations nor can we fine anyone. However, it should be understood that any outside fire in question that can be determined as a health risk, nuisance, or otherwise hazardous to the environment, wildlife, or humans could involve the NC Forest Service and Environmental Protection Agency along with local law enforcement agencies.These organizations can and will act accordingly based on the given situations.
